CARLISLE DEFEATS OAKRIDGE

Carlisle led by 10 points early in the fourth period and held on for a 52-47 win over Oakridge in the Greensboro Country Day boys' basketball tournament Saturday.

Carlisle (2-5) hit eight of 10 free throws in the final minutes to seal the victory.

Rod Mitchell led the Chiefs with 13 points, and Kevin Warren added 10.

Oakridge's Brent Rogers led all scorers with 17 points. \

Goretti School (Md.) 82

North Cross 66

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Goretti School had 10 players in a big first period, and the Raiders never recovered in the third-place game of the Greensboro Country Day tournament.

John Cunningham led Goretti (5-1), which jumped to a 24-12 lead after one period. The Raiders' Hal Johnson had a game-high 29 points and 11 rebounds. Marcus Cardwell added 18 points for North Cross (1-2).

The Raiders rallied briefly in the second half but never got closer than eight points. \

Friday's games

\ Martinsville 68, Patrick County 56: In Stuart, Michael Martin had a game-high 20 points as the Bulldogs (5-1, 5-1) defeated Patrick County 68-56 in a Piedmont District boys' game. Patrick County (0-5, 0-5) cut the deficit to six points with 4 1/2 minutes left but could pull no closer. Senior forward Chris Reynolds had a game-high 24 points to lead the Cougars. \

Meadowbridge (W. Va.) 63, Covington Boys Home 57:

In Meadowbridge, WVa., Meadowbridge squandered most of an 18-point lead before holding off Covington Boys Home, which got a game-high 25 points and seven 3-pointers from Donnie Costigan. Greg Kier added 18 points for Covington Boys Home (5-2). Chad Hart led Meadowbridge (1-1) with 20 points. \
