ALLEGHANY KEEPS COVINGTON WINLESS

Alleghany built a big early lead, lost it, then came back to defeat Covington 67-63 on Saturday night in a non-district boys' basketball game.

The Cougars (0-4), who trailed 27-10 after one quarter, were paced by Van Rogers' 30 points. Rogers passed the 1,000-point mark for his career and scored 13 of Covington's 17 points in the fourth quarter.

Rogers gave the Cougars a 57-56 lead with 1 minute, 13 seconds remaining in the game, but Todd Wheatley put the Mountaineers (3-3) back in front moments later with an inside basket.
