TEACHER OF THE WEEK

CAROLYN SCOTT

First grade Fort Lewis Elementary

When Carolyn Scott goes home at the end of her school day, her school day doesn't end. "Teaching is not an eight-hour job," she said. "Being a teacher requires a lot of work at home, too."

Scott's work at home apparently pays off in the classroom. "I like Mrs. Scott because she is nice and she helps me," said one of the pupils who nominated her.

Scott's peers at Fort Lewis Elementary in Salem also seem to hold her in high esteem. "She is reliable," said a Fort Lewis staff member. "If Carolyn Scott says she will do something she does it right and on time."

Scott says her favorite subject to teach is math, which she likes because of the number of math games available for her pupils to play.

Praise of her pupils is Scott's best motivating tool. Her pupils thrive on acceptance, she said.

Scott, who is married, likes to read and walk. She also enjoys flower gardening.
