OBIT BARTON, MUREL EUGENE

BARTON, Murel Eugene, 84, of Narrows, died Sunday, December 19, 1993, in a Wytheville nursing home. He was born in Summers County, W.Va. on July 22, 1909, and was the son of the late Rufus E. and Grace Honaker Barton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Morton Barton. He was a member of Castle Rock Lodge #338 of Pembroke, a charter member of the Pembroke Ruritan Club, an elder and member of the First Christian Church in Narrows, an elder and trustee of the Pembroke Christian Church in Pembroke, and the Central Christian Church in Bradenton, Fla., and a former member of Pembroke Town Council and Giles County Co-Electroal Board, a past member of Lakeland Chapter #74 O.E.S., Narrows, Va. He was the retired owner of the Barton's 5 and 10 in Pembroke, and Barton's Barber Shop. He had served as President and member of the Board of the Giles-Pulaski Mutual Insurance Company. He is survived by two sons, Donald E. Barton, Vancouver, Wash., Doyle R. Barton, Radford; a sister, Thelma B. McClaugherty, Narrows; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Narrows with the Rev. Jack E. Musick and Dr. Gina T. Rhea officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. A Masonic memorial service will be held at the funeral home by Castle Rock Lodge #338, 7 p.m. The family suggests that memorials be sent to the First Christian Church in Narrows or the Pembroke Christian Church in Pembroke.
