TWO CHAMPS DOMINATED PLAY IN CHURCH LEAGUES

As the holiday season approaches, so is the end of the fall sports season.

Among the latest regular-season champions to be crowned are St. Paul II, Main Street Baptist I and Zion Hill-First Baptist.

St. Paul II (28-2) dominated the Christiansburg Church Co-Ed A Volleyball League, winning more than 93 percent of its games. It finished 11 games ahead of runner-up Presbyterian I (17-13).

Main Street Baptist I (27-3) had almost an identical victory record in the Christiansburg Church Co-Ed B Volleyball League. Main Street won 90 percent of the time and ended up four games in front of second-place Mount Tabor (23-7).

However the Radford Church League Basketball was much, much closer. Zion Hill-First Baptist (9-1) captured the title by beating First Baptist (8-2) in the regular-season finale, 62-47.

In the Radford Church League tournament, the first round went as expected. First Pentecostal eliminated the St. Jude's Bishops 55-40 while Gethsemane ousted the St. Jude's Cardinals 37-33.

The tournament finals were scheduled for Tuesday night.
