CAFFEINE, MISCARRIAGE RISK LINKED

A new study suggests pregnant women who consume the amount of caffeine in one and a half to three cups of coffee a day may nearly double their risk of miscarriage.

The researchers also linked high caffeine consumption - the equivalent of more than three cups of coffee a day - in the month before pregnancy with a similar risk of miscarriage, said Dr. Claire Infante-Rivard of McGill University in Montreal, the primary author of the report in today's Journal of the American Medical Association.

The study also found drinking the amount of caffeine in more than three cups of coffee a day during pregnancy nearly triples the risk of miscarriage. - The New York Times
