OBIT-CHITTUM, MARY SHAFER

CHITTUM, Mary Shafer, 93, of Buena Vista, died December 21, 1993, in a Buena Vista Nursing Home. She was born October 16, 1900, the daughter of the late Preston G. and Lillian Shorter Shafer and the widow of Glennie M. Chittum. Surviving are five daughters, Dorothy Smith, Kalamazoo, Mich., Minnie Fox, Staunton, Ruth Jestice, Alexandria, Alaska, Patricia Laswell, Edwardsville, Ill., Betty Estep, Verona; four sons, Sayler Chittum, Casper Chittum, Earl Chittum and Edward Chittum, all of Buena Vista; 29 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Shafer, Buena Vista; two sisters, Ruby Chapman, Buena Vista, Clara Muri, Elizabeth, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Dean Staton at the Lomax Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
