WOMAN HURT IN CHRISTMAS EVE BLAZE

A Southeast Roanoke woman received first- and second-degree burns in a house fire on Christmas Eve.

Lauren Starr, 30, received burns on her face and hands in the fire, which started just before 3:30 p.m.

She and Bethany Starr, 12, were treated at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and released.

Her two other children also in the house when the fire started escaped without injury.

Roanoke Fire Capt. G.I. Morgan said the cause of the fire at 417 Arbor Avenue S.E. was under investigation.

It started in an upstairs bedroom and gutted that room, another bedroom and the second-floor back porch.

Fire officials estimated the damage at $30,000.
