OBIT-KENNEDY, LIONA BELLE ROBERTS
KENNEDY, Liona Belle Roberts, 80, of Fort Worth, Texas, died Tuesday,
December 21, 1993, in Fort Worth, Texas hospital from complications of
pneumonia. Mrs. Kennedy was born April 22, 1913, in Black Hills near Hulett,
Wyo., and grew up on Fort Lewis Mountain. She attended Glenvar schools; and
was a professional seamstress and native of Fort Lewis Mountain near Salem.
She sewed in Virginia textile factories, at the Senate Cleaners in Washington,
D.C. and in a Fort Worth boot and saddle factory. At home, Mrs. Kennedy sewed
men's, women's and children's clothes for more than 400 customers, once
including actor Guy Madison. Her son, Bud Kennedy, is a newspaper columnist at
the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and wrote a 1989 column about her which won a
Texas Associated Press Managing award. Mrs. Kennedy grew up attending Locust
Grove United Methodist Church and was a member of First United Methodist
Church of Fort Worth. Her husband, Elbert E. "Bud" Kennedy, died in 1985. Mrs.
Kennedy is survived by one son, Bud Kennedy of Fort Worth; three sisters,
Virginia Smith of Salem, Va., Edith Carroll of Concord, Va., and Una R.
Humbird of De Land, Fla.; one brother, Sherman Roberts of Roanoke. Funeral was
Thursday, December 23, 1993, with burial in Greenwood Memorial Park. The
family suggests that memorials be made to the D/ART program
(Depression/Awareness, Recognition and Treatment) of the Mental Health
Association of Tarrant County, Texas, 3136 W. 4th St., Fort Worth, Texas
76107.
