ISLAMIC FRONT ELECTS MODERATE LEADERSHIP

Jordan's powerful Muslim fundamentalist movement has formed a new consultative council dominated by moderates, reflecting a shift away from hard-line policies.

The change in the council's leadership was announced Sunday by Ishaq al-Farhan, secretary-general of the Islamic Action Front, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. The shift came in the wake of Nov. 8 elections, in which the front lost six of the 22 seats it held in the 80-member Chamber of Deputies. Observers believe the government will now be able to push a peace agreement with Israel through parliament. - Associated Press
