OBIT JOHNSON, HUGHEY EDWARD SR.

JOHNSON, Hughey Edward Sr., 69, of Lexington, died Sunday, December 26, 1993, in a local hospital. A son of the late William "Wicks" Johnson and the late Alice Carey Johnson, he was born August 17, 1924, in Lexington. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. At his retirement in 1990 from Virginia Military Institute, he was a custodial supervisor. Other affiliations include, Lexington City School Board, Friends of the Library, Board of Directors of the Montessori School. Surviving are his wife, Eloise Walker Johnson, Lexington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marquita J. and Albert Journiette, Anita J. and Albert Davoll, all of Roanoke; three sons and daughters-in-law, Hughey E. Jr. and Donna Johnson, Lexington, John S. and Denise Johnson, Sacramento, Calif., Edwin A. and Cassandra M. Johnson, Lexington; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Mary J. Kenney, Detroit, Mich.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Willie and Louise Johnson, Lexington, Isaac W. Johnson, Washington, D.C., Lenwood and Emma Johnson, Lexington; his mother-in-law, Alice T. Walker; one brother-in-law and wife, Edwin T. and Margaret Walker; a sister-in-law, Velma Walker; two devoted friends, Mr. and Mrs. Shedrick Nicholas, all of Lexington. The family will receive friends at the Lewis Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Wednesday, 1 p.m. with the Rev. James B. Harris, Minister, assisted by area clergy. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the J.B. Lewis Funeral Service, Lexington.
