TOURNAMENTS PUT ON HOLD BY WEATHER

A winter storm forced Salem High School officials to postpone the Advance Auto Parts Holiday Classic boys' basketball tournament Tuesday at the Salem Civic Center.

The first round will be played today, beginning at 2 p.m., when Cave Spring takes on Fieldale-Collinsville. The second game, at 4 p.m., matches Franklin County against Northside. Tonight's contests pair William Byrd against A.C. Flora (S.C.) at 6 and Salem vs. Laurel Park at 8.

The final day of the tournament has been pushed back to Friday and will be played at Salem High School. The first game Friday will be at 10 a.m., with the championship contest at 4 p.m.

The second round of the North Cross Holiday Classic also was postponed Tuesday. All three scheduled games will be played today.

In other sports in the region:

The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will be seeking its second tournament championship of the season today and Thursday during the Diamond Club Classic at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg.

The Hokies, who are 4-1 after winning the Lady Waves Tournament at Pepperdine, will face Colgate at 7 p.m. today in the opening round. Appalachian State meets William and Mary at 5 p.m.

The consolation game is 5 p.m. Thursday, followed by the championship game at 7 p.m.
