CAVE SPRING GIRLS WIN TOURNAMENT

Aimee Beightol scored 16 points and made 12 assists and eight steals as Cave Spring beat Southwest Guilford 66-54 in the championship of the Northwest Guilford Invitational girls' high school basketball tournament Wednesday night.

Three Knights were selected to the all-tournament team: Beightol, Lisa Bryan and Leah Daigle, who was the tournament's most valuable player.

Cave Spring (10-0) used a tough zone press to break open a one-point game by going on a 14-0 run at the start of the second quarter.

Southwest Guilford (9-1) hit 57 percent of its free throws but did not muster enough scoring from the field. Sequoya Friday was Southwest's leading scorer with 12 points. SOUTHWEST GUILFORD (54)
