NEIGHBORS AGAIN SHOW JUST HOW GOOD THEY ARE

As the Good Neighbors Fund drive comes to a close, Roanoke Area Ministries Executive Director Julie Hollingsworth is happy to see that so many people understand the importance of emergency assistance for the needy in the Roanoke Valley.

Hollingsworth tells the story of a man whose disability income forces him to live on limited means.

He came to RAM house after dental surgery Christmas Eve with two prescriptions, one for pain and one to combat infection.

Thanks to money from the Good Neighbors emergency fund, RAM was able to fill his prescriptions at the last minute.

The man then returned to his rented room, which only a week before had been paid for by contributions to the Good Neighbors Fund.

"I know of no other place in the area that can provide such urgent financial assistance as often as the RAM House does," Hollingsworth said.

Of the assistance RAM House has received from the Good Neighbors Fund, Hollingsworth said, "I think we've done beautifully. . . . I am honored to be involved in such a caring community."

Walter Rugaber, president and publisher of the Roanoke Times & World-News, shares the same sentiments.

"It's heartening to see how responsive this community is to its less-fortunate members. . . . I can't think of a better way to bring in the New Year than by extending a little help and a lot of hope to someone in need," Rugaber said.

To all those who contributed to the Good Neighbors Fund this year, this newspaper, Roanoke Area Ministries and all of those you have helped thank you sincerely.

Checks should be made payable to Good Neighbors Fund and mailed to Roanoke Times & World-News, P.O. Box 1951, Roanoke 24008.
