CHESAPEAKE - A Coast Guard helicopter rescued five people Thursday from a 19-foot boat that had run aground in the Northwest River.
The five Virginia Beach residents were camping along the river when they went for a ride in the boat Wednesday night, said Coast Guard Lt. John Daly.
Other campers reported them overdue Thursday morning. A helicopter from the Coast Guard base in Elizabeth City, N.C., noticed them about 9 a.m. and hoisted them aboard.
The boaters were taken to Chesapeake General Hospital, where one required treatment for mild hypothermia.

Manager, couple assist in arrests after holdup
SPOTSYLVANIA - Quick action by an employee and a young couple led to the arrest of four men after an armed robbery at a fast-food restaurant.
The arrests were made soon after the robbery Wednesday night of a Hardee's restaurant, said 1st Sgt. Donald Doggett of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Department.
Barbara Holmes, manager of the Hardee's, said the robbers apparently did not see her, so she went out the front door and ran to a video store to call police. Holmes said she told a young couple in the parking lot that a robbery was in progress.
The couple followed a car believed to be the getaway car and gave police the license plate number. - Associated Press
