Roanoke going on line with InfiNet

InfiNet, a Norfolk-based joint venture of Landmark Communications Inc. and Wyvern Technologies Inc., said Monday it has launched its computer on-line service in Richmond and hopes to add Roanoke to the service area by the end of March.

InfiNet, with about 700 paid subscribers, primarily in Tidewater, provides access to the Internet, an international collection of high-speed computer networks. It also offers local bulletin-board services and may include electronic archives of columns and other features from Landmark publications, such as the Roanoke Times & World-News. InfiNet plans to expand statewide eventually.

Martinsville bank increases dividend

Piedmont BankGroup Inc. of Martinsville has increased its quarterly dividend from 15 to 16 cents a share, payable March 31 to shareholders on March 16. The 6.3 percent increase follows two increases last year worth a total of 3 cents a share. In addition, a dividend in the form of a 5-for-4 stock split was paid July 31. - Staff report
