Woodbridge never led by more than six points until late in the game, when Talia Lake canned a 12-foot jumper to put the Vikings (18-4) ahead 35-30 with 2 minutes, 36 seconds to play. Pulaski County (17-7) was forced to foul, and Woodbridge sealed the victory at the free-throw line.
"Woodbridge is very sound fundamentally," said Rod Reedy, the Cougars' coach. "They do a great job controlling the ball offensively, and when they got that lead we were forced to foul."
The Vikings, who went to the line only once in the first three quarters, scored their next 14 points on free throws to pull away.
Woodbridge's Jennifer Scott led all scorers with 17 points, and Lake added 11.
Carol Buckner led Pulaski County with 14 points and Stephanie Williams added 10, including two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. The Vikings held Jodie Hallett, the Roanoke Valley District player of the year, to five points - none in the fourth quarter.
Woodbridge plays host to Gar-Field in a quarterfinal on Thursday. Pulaski County's season ends with the loss. \
