Some might say Anthony Thomas would have been better off if he had not battled so hard to rally the Cavaliers, only to suffer the unkindest bounce of all.
Thomas, however, is not one of them.
With Carroll County trailing by two points and the game's final seconds evaporating, Thomas fought his way for an offensive rebound and was hammered while trying to shoot as the buzzer sounded. The fact that he made only one of two free throws - the second one, after the first had bounded high off the back rim - hardly was the reason Carroll County's season ended with an 86-85 loss to Lee in the Region IV boys' basketball tournament. Rather, the fact that he and the Cavaliers earned the chance to win should be reward enough.
The Cavaliers, whose season ended with a 9-14 record, erased a 15-point deficit in the third quarter, then fought back from six down with 37 seconds left in regulation to force overtime on John Wolford's 3-point basket with two seconds left.
