CAMPBELL MAN CHARGED IN KILLING

Elmer N. Adams was charged with murder Thursday, two days after authorities found what they think is the body of a man who has been missing for almost a month.

Adams, 43, of Gladys, was being held without bond at the Campbell County jail after being charged with murder and a gun violation.

Authorities said smoldering human remains that were found Tuesday in Adams' back yard are believed to be those of Alfonza L. Payne, 33, of Naruna.

Police and court documents indicate that Payne was shot to death Feb. 4, and his body was moved. - Associated Press
