HELPERS DURING STORM TO BE HONORED BY RADFORD KIWANIS CLUB|

The Kiwanis Club is making plans - and taking donations - to honor city employees who pitched in following the ice storm. At Monday's City Council meeting, Sandra Daniels, the club's president, outlined her chapter's plans for a Radford City Employees Appreciation Eventin May.

A Kiwanis Club proclamation cited how workers put in overtime and went without meals and sleep to repair storm damage and clear downed trees and limbs.

The club has set Monday as Group Donations Day. The 10 a.m. event at Crestar Bank on Norwood Street will kick off the fund drive. All the city's clubs and groups are invited to contribute to the Radford City Employees appreciation event fund.

A special tax-deductible Kiwanis Foundation fund has been set up at Crestar Bank. Individual residents also may donate.

Daniels said donations should be sent to the bank in care of Bob Witmer.

Details of the May event, which will be held at Radford University, will be announced.
