NEW PLANTS GOING UP IN SALEM

Two Roanoke Valley businesses are scheduled Monday to unveil plans for plants they are building in Salem's new industrial park.

Tele-Path Industries and Noble-Met Ltd. both are expected to provide details for 20,000-square-foot buildings in the Apperson Drive park to house their expanding businesses.

Noble-Met makes specialty components from precious metals for medical uses. Tele-Path produces components used to test communications equipment.

"These are two new manufacturing facilities for Roanoke Valley businesses that are expanding and who are remaining in the valley," said Sam Lionberger Jr., president of Lionberger Construction, general contractor for both projects. "We're trying to target not only new businesses [for the park], but retain and help existing businesses grow."

Lionberger and architects Balzer & Associates have spent six months designing the plants. The companies should occupy the buildings by fall, Lionberger said.

Salem officials and owners of the businesses are to unveil architects' renderings at a news conference Monday afternoon at the Salem Administration Building.

Lionberger declined to give the cost of the construction projects but termed them multimillion-dollar facilities.
