Joann B. Anderson of Penhook was a passenger in a car traveling on Virginia 890 in southeast Franklin County, state police said. The driver, Barry Goad, veered off the right side of the road and struck several trees.
State police said Anderson, 37, died at the scene at 3:30 p.m.
Moneta resident David S. Haymaker was killed when he ran through a stop sign and struck a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Haymaker was driving on Virginia 122 when he approached the intersection with Virginia 636 at 4:15 p.m. State Trooper W.K. Odell said he wasn't sure if Haymaker ran the stop sign or simply didn't see the vehicle driving toward him.
Haymaker, 18, was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Back-seat passenger Justin McGarris, 15, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said McGarris was in stable condition Friday night. The front-seat passenger was not injured.
Odell said he was unsure whether Haymaker was wearing a seat belt, but he said there was no alcohol involved.
