UVA RUN SINKS DEACS 73-54

Eighth-ranked Virginia used a 16-0 run in the final six minutes Saturday to pull away from Wake Forest for a 73-54 victory in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

Jeffra Gausepol scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Cavaliers (24-3). Amy Lofstedt added 17 points and Wendy Palmer scored 16.

The Cavaliers held the Deacons to 17 rebounds.

Val Hodge led Wake Forest (8-19), scoring 16 points and adding three assists and three rebounds.

\ Maryland 60\ Duke 45

Bonnie Rimkus led the Terrapins with 19 points in a victory over the Blue Devils.

Maryland (15-12) led throughout against the Blue Devils (7-10), giving up the lead only once, at 13:37 when Duke led by two.

The game was close up to the last five minutes of the first half, when Maryland strengthened its lead to five. The Terps led 29-21 at halftime.

Maryland started the second half with an 8-0 run and kept going from there.

Rimkus, second in the conference in scoring, and the Terrapins' Monica Adams both had career-high rebounding totals. Rimkus had 17 and Adams 14.

Carey Kauffman led the Blue Devils with 11 points.
