MCDONALD'S STUDIES SIT-DOWN EATERIES

McDonald's Corp. is considering starting a new chain of sit-down restaurants that would serve home-style dishes such as roast chicken, meat loaf and mashed potatoes. Hearth Express would cater to families hoping to pay about $5 per person for dinner, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

The fast-food company has been trying unsuccessfully for years to develop a dinner menu that could pump up evening sales at its McDonald's outlets.

McDonald's spokesman Chuck Ebeling said Monday that Hearth Express is a "test concept." He did not elaborate.
