REPORTED EARNINGS REVCO D.S. INC.

Revco D.S. Inc., Twinsburg, Ohio, operator of Revco drug stores, on Tuesday reported third-quarter sales of $621.2 million, up 12.5 percent from last year's $552.4 million, and comparable-store sales up 9 percent from the year-ago quarter. Operating profit rose 28 percent to $31.5 million from $24.6 million. Net income was $12.5 million, or 25 cents per share, up $8.2 million from $4.3 million, or 11 cents per share.

Excluding the impact of a non-cash charge for amortization of goodwill, net income was $16.6 million, or 33 cents per share, compared with $8.4 million, or 21 cents.

For the year, sales advanced 11.8 percent to $1,688.5 million from $1,510.6 million. Comparable-store sales increased 8.7 percent. Operating profit rose 37 percent to $54.8 million from last year's $40 million. Net income was $18.5 million, or 37 cents per share, up $16.3 million from last year's $2.2 million, or 6 cents per share.

Excluding the impact of the charge for amortization of goodwill, net income was $30.7 million, or 61 cents per share, compared with $14.4 million, or 39 cents.

Charming Shoppes

Charming Shoppes Inc., Bensalem, Pa., parent of Fashion Bug and Fashion Bug Plus stores in the Roanoke Valley, reported fourth-quarter net income of $23.8 million, or 22 cents per share, compared with $25.9 million, or 24 cents, in the 1993 quarter. Sales were $357.2 million, up 6 percent from $337.2 million.

For the year, net income was $79.7 million, or 74 cents per share, compared with $81.1 million, or 75 cents, last year. Net income includes the cumulative effect of an accounting change of $4 million, or 4 cents per share. Sales increased 6 percent to $1.3 billion from $1.2 billion.
