FLYING BATHTUB CAUSES PILE-UP

A flying bathtub started a chain-reaction accident on U.S. 460 at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, sending three people to hospitals with minor injuries and holding up traffic for more than an hour.

The fiberglass shower insert, according to Roanoke County police, was in the back of a pickup truck when it slid off onto the road and caused a five-car pileup.

"This is a new one on me," said Officer M.W. Jackson.

Police were searching for the truck Tuesday night after the driver left the scene of the wreck, Jackson said.

The pileup occurred just outside the Roanoke city limits near the entrance to Huntridge Road.
