Registration closes Friday for a trip to the First Union 400 at North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Wilkesboro, N.C. on April 17.
The cost is $45 and includes race ticket and transportation.
Note that anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult. And no alcoholic beverages or tobacco products will be allowed on the vans.
This will mark the third year in a row that the rec department has sponsored a junket to North Wilkesboro.
For more information about the trip, call ART PRICE, the director of parks and recreation, or CHUCK MUNCY, the supervisor of athletics, at 382-2349.
The outing to North Wilkesboro is the third race trip sponsored by the Christiansburg rec department already this racing season. It took a van to the Goodwrench 500 at Rockingham, N.C. on Feb. 27. And it is going to the TranSouth 400 at Darlington, S.C. on March 27.
Fall trips to the Winston Cup races at the three tracks are also planned.
And if you can't get away for the weekend but still want a taste of racing, Christiansburg has you covered there as well - the Racing Rooms which opened earlier this year at the town recreation center at 95 College Street.
The room features photographs, posters and post cards from 40 Winston Cup and Busch Grand National Drivers.
Many of the pieces are autographed. The largest piece is a replica of the door from the black No. 3 Chevrolet Lumina of DALE EARNHARDT which Earnhardt and the rest of the RICHARD CHILDRESS racing team signed.
Also on display are sponsors banners from such well-known corporate names in racing circles such as Western Auto, Citgo, Chevrolet Motorsports and MRN Radio (that's short for Motor Racing Network).
There are posters and/or brochures from 16 of the 18 Winston Cup tracks. Local auto dealerships Shelor Chevrolet and New River Pontiac have contributed racing-related items. And there is a limited supply of postcards, posters and bumper stickers available to visitors to the Racing Rooms.
"We are very proud of our RaCing Rooms and they have receive positive input from the people that have seen them," Price said about the rooms. "We sincerely appreciate the response that we have received from drivers, sponsors, and race tracks. Personally, I do not think that we would get this response from any other professional athletes, teams, etc."
The rec department is open from 8-5 weekdays.
