COUNTY OFFICIALS DECLARE DISASTER

A declaration of emergency conditions following a second ice storm in recent weeks became official Monday night in a resolution adopted by the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors.

County officials enacted the declaration last Wednesday, and the board formally ratified it at its meeting Monday.

Property losses from the first storm in February were placed at $361,220, with $282,950 not covered by insurance. The total reflected damages of $233,720 to private property and $127,500 to public property.

The cost from this month's storm was even higher: $636,000, none of it covered by insurance, with $501,000 representing private and $135,000 public properties.

The Salvation Army provided shelter in Pulaski to 25 people during the first storm.
