HOSPICE OFFERS TRAINING SESSIONS

New River Valley Hospice will offer a series of training sessions for prospective hospice volunteers in Giles County. Hospice provides medical, emotional and spiritual care and support for terminally ill people and their families.

Volunteers are trained to go into a patient's home to offer companionship and respite. All classes will be held on Saturdays at First United Methodist Church, unless otherwise noted.

Classes will be held:

March 12, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Introduction to hospice and Medicare/Medicaid, insurance coverage.

March 26, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Attitudes on death and dying and spiritual care issues.

April 9, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Communications and stress management.

April 16, 10 -11:30 a.m. at Givens Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements.

April 23, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Pain control, nutrition, body mechanics and AIDS/HIV and hepatitis B.

April 30, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Loss, grief and bereavement.
