CRAIG SUPERS MAY CHANGE MEETING FOR 8TH-GRADERS

The Craig County Board of Supervisors may change the time of one of its meetings to aid the educational process of eighth-grade civics students at Craig County High School.

The only possible hang-up is that it may not be legal. Dates, times and the place of board meetings were set in January for all of 1994, and a change would require public notice and possibly a public hearing.

But that will not deter board members from trying.

"I think we should do it if we possibly can," said Zane M. Jones, board chairman.

Board members decided to check with the county attorney and decide the question when they meet again Tuesday.

During its annual reorganization in January, the board set its meetings for the first Mondays at 3:30 p.m. and the third Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.

Greg Stick, a civics teacher at the high school, asked the board to hold its April or May Monday meeting at 1:30 or 2 p.m. so his class could attend during the school day. His eighth-graders would have transportations problems attending a meeting after school, he said.

On another matter, the supervisors learned that the Virginia Department of Transportation will hold its annual pre-allocation public hearing on April 13 at the department's district auditorium on Harrison Street in Salem.

During the meeting, local government representatives will file secondary road projects they deem in special need and ask the Transportation Department to include them in the annual construction budget.

Craig County, along with other Roanoke Valley governments, will be first on the agenda, beginning at 9 a.m.
