FRANKLIN COUNTY MOONSHINER HELD IN SHOOTING

Dickie Adkins, whose life as a Franklin County moonshiner was chronicled in a January story in the Roanoke Times & World-News, has been arrested and charged in the shooting of a Stanleytown man Thursday night, according to Sheriff W.Q. Overton.

The victim, Charlie G. Foster, was listed in serious condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Friday. A hospital supervisor said Foster was shot twice in the chest.

Adkins was being held on $50,000 bond in the Franklin County Jail, Overton said. He is charged with malicious wounding and using a gun to commit a felony.

The shooting occurred in the community of Endicott. The Sheriff's Office was continuing an investigation, and further details were unavailable Friday.
