'FOX AND HOUND' NOW ON VIDEO

One of Walt Disney's more memorable films and noteworthy financial successes, "The Fox and the Hound," was released Friday on home video.

When this movie was released in 1981, it grossed $40 million, a record for a Disney animated film. It added another $24 million in its 1988 re-release. Now Disney home video is looking for an equal cash-register smash for the 83-minute movie, listed at $24.95.

This lesson in friendship features the song "Best of Friends," sung by Pearl Bailey, and the voices of Mickey Rooney, Kurt Russell, Jack Albertson, Sandy Duncan and Corey Feldman.

Other current releases for kids:

Steven Spielberg's dinosaur adventure for the whole family, "We're Back," is subtitled "A dinosaur's story: Wish for a dinosaur and watch all your dreams come true." (71 minutes, $24.98). Release date: March 15.

Four titles in an "Out of This World" set for the Ninja Turtle fans are due out March 23 at $12.98 each. The titles: "Return of the Turtleoid," "Unidentified Flying Leonardo," "Beyond the Donatello Nebula" and "Planet of the Turtleoids." Ninja Turtle fans have already purchased more than 24 million home videos.

Nickelodeon now has five titles on the new-release shelf, right behind its initial "Clarissa Explains It All" video, "Dating," and "Nickelodeon's Mushfest," released in January. Come March 22, Nick releases "Clarissa Explains It All: Take My Brother Please," "Are You Afraid of the Dark? Ghostly Tales" and "The Ren & Stimpy Show: In Disguise," its sixth home video. Nickelodeon videos run 45-60 minutes and list for $14.98.

At the end of the month MCA Universal will release three new volumes in the "Fievel's American Tails" series and three others in its "Back to the Future" set. Each runs about 45 minutes and lists for $12.98.

The first Muppet sing-along video, "It's Not Easy Being Green," was released a couple of weeks ago featuring 13 songs by Jim Henson's gang (Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and Fozzie Bear). On-screen lyrics make it fun for kids to sing, dance and laugh along with the Muppets.
