NAMES & CHANGES

ITT names president for China

ROY C. SHELDON, director of international marketing at the electro-optical products division of ITT Defense & Sheldon Electronics in Roanoke, has been promoted to the newly created position of president of ITT Automotive, China.

Sheldon will be based at the ITT Automotive headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich., and will be responsible for formulating and implementing a multi-unit business strategy for the automotive market in China.

Since joining the electro-optical products division in July 1991, Sheldon has directed all international marketing efforts and activities in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He has been instrumental in boosting international military sales and laying the groundwork for export of ITT's commercial night vision products.

BANKING

LARRY J. HURT has been named branch manager of The Bank of Floyd's Cave Spring office. Hurt was previously with NationsBank.

\ MARTHA DAVIS SHIFFLETT has joined NationsBank, where she will be responsible for new business development in investment management and personal trust for Roanoke, Lynchburg, and Southwest Virginia. Before joining NationsBank, Shifflett was a senior vice president and regional credit administrator with First Union National Bank of Virginia, formerly Dominion Bank, where she had been employed since 1974.

BUILDING SUPPLIES

MARTIN EWING has been promoted to vice president of information systems at Moore's Lumber and Building Supplies in Roanoke. Ewing became Moore's information systems director in 1992 and has more than 19 years' experience with the company. Also, RODNEY JOHNSON has joined Moore's as director of merchandising/millwork. Johnson, who comes to Roanoke from Georgia, has 11 years of experience related to his new position.

Also, PAT MIDGLEY, TOM SCANLON, GLENN HOY, JAMES O'BRIEN, and HARRY ROBINSON have been named zone managers in a new field reorganization at Moore's. They will be liaisons for the branch managers and will report to the senior vice president division managers.

BUSINESS SERVICES

CAMILLE MILLER has been named president of Virginia Education Group, a Lexington-based training group specializing in organization dynamics. Miller will make presentations to groups and associations and will work with companies prior to their undertaking total quality management training.

CONSTRUCTION

DOUG NEWMAN has been named installation and service manager for Rusco Window Co. of Roanoke Inc. He was formerly housing director for Charleston, W.Va., where he was responsible for housing development and rehabilitation.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce has named SUSAN SIMMONS, who is director of catering at Roanoke Airport Marriott hotel, the 1993 Ambassador of the Year. Simmons was recognized for her role in maintaining a high membership retention rate and for developing a slide presentation for the chamber.

INSURANCE

SAM J. BAKER of Life Insurance Co. of Georgia has been promoted to manager of the company's Roanoke district. Baker joined the company in 1989 as an agent in Memphis, Tenn., and became sales manager in Chattanooga, Tenn., two years later. He became regional field trainer in 1993 and was named to his present position in December.

INVESTMENTS

CHRIS WHISNANT has joined the Roanoke office of J.C. Bradford & Co. as an investment broker. Whisnant recently received a master of business administration degree from from Virginia Tech with a concentration in finance. Before that, he worked in management and contract sales with 84 Lumber Co.

MANUFACTURING

WADE L. POLLARD has been promoted to president of Architectural Concrete Products Inc., a manufacturer of precast concrete building components in Daleville. Pollard is a registered architect and has been vice president of the company for nine years. Also, KEVIN L. BERTHOLF has been named vice president. A registered architect, Bertholf is president-elect of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He has been project manager for the company since 1992.

\ LEE H. HOUSTON JR. has been appointed president of Daystrom Furniture, a LADD operating company in High Point, N.C. Most recently, he was a furniture extension specialist with North Carolina State University. Houston was general manager of the Ridgeway division of Pulaski Furniture Corp. from 1985 to 1991. He was vice president of operations and manufacturing and a director of Gravely Furniture Co. in Ridgeway from 1978 to 1985.

ORGANIZATIONS

Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Roanoke Valley Inc. has elected new officers: WILLIAM ROCK, vice president of Carilion Health Services, chairman of the board; GARY DOLAN, Allstate Insurance Co. agent, vice chairman; WILLIAM TUTTLE SR., vice president of Crestar Bank, treasurer; CAROLE SOUTHON, secretary; and VIRGINIA GARRETSON, president and chief executive officer.

The Western Chapter of the Virginia Association of Surveyors has elected officers for 1994: LINDA R. DUFFY, T.P. Parker & Sons, president; ROBERT G. CANTLEY, Robert G. Cantley Inc., vice president; TIMOTHY HOELZLE, Lumsden Associates, secretary-treasurer; JOSEPH D. CONNELLY, Joseph D. Connelly Surveying, director; and E. \ JENNIFER L. SPAINE has been named the 1994 Individual Development Representative for the Valley Network Organization of Business & Professional Women in Roanoke. Spaine is the office manager for Dewberry & Davis, an engineering, architecture and planningfirm in Roanoke.

TRANSPORTATION

GREGORY M. CALDWELL, who formerly worked for Norfolk Southern in Roanoke from 1984 to 1988, has been promoted to national sales/marketing manager for CSX Corp. and will be working in Jacksonville, Fla. He previously held a regional sales position in Raleigh, N.C.
