SPECIAL 100-LAP ENDURO RACE HIGHLIGHTS NEW RIVER VALLEY SPEEDWAY PRELIMINARY

Entries are being received daily for the first Enduro race to be held at New River Valley Speedway on March 27.

The special event, along with a 35-lap race for the Pure Stock drivers and a 25-lap race for Mini Stock drivers, is a preliminary to the opening of the NASCAR-sanctioned season on April 2.

An Enduro race is for stock cars with a simple roll-over cage added to protect the driver. All glass, with the exception of the windshield, must be removed, but nothing can be added or changed, promoter Ronnie Snoddy said.

"An Enduro car gives anyone an opportunity to get into racing without investing a pile of money," Snoddy said.

The race will be 100 laps or two hours, whichever comes first. Rules, entry forms and a diagram of the roll cage are available at the speedway, or they can be ordered through the mail by calling the track office during office hours at (703) 639-1700.

The first green flag will fall at 2 p.m. Gates open at 10 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under.

The first practice of the season for race cars will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 26. Another session is scheduled April 1. - Staff report
