ENERGY SECRETARY APPOINTS 4 TO COAL COUNCIL

Four Western Virginians have been appointed to the National Coal Council by U.S. Secretary of Energy Hazel O'Leary.

They are William Bales, vice president, coal marketing, Norfolk Southern Corp., Roanoke; Bill Reid, president, American Longwall Face Conveyors Inc., Abingdon; Barbara Altizer, executive director, Virginia Coal Council, Richlands; and Myrleen Fairchild, chairwoman and chief executive officer, Fairchild International Inc., Glen Lyn.

The National Coal Council provides recommendations on general policy relating to the coal industry, especially pertaining to U.S. Department of Energy programs. - Staff report
