Where to Stay:

For the budget minded, best bets are Egan's Guest House (7/9 Iona Park 9, tel. 303611; $60-$75 double, with full Irish breakfast) and the Fitzwilliam Hotel (41 Fitzwilliam St. Upper 2 600448; $65-$90). Expect to pay about $50 for two at bed-and-breakfast establishments throughout Dublin. If money is no object, try the Conrad Hotel (Earlsfort Terrace; 800-445-8667 in the United States; from $215, without breakfast) or the Shelbourne Hotel (St. Stephen's Green; 800-225-5843 in the United States; from $215).

Where to Eat:

Soup-and-sandwich pub lunches cost about $15 for two. Dubliners save their heavy eating for dinner. One of the city's top attractions is Gallagher's in Temple Bar, near O'Connell Bridge. Traditional Irish stew with thick slabs of soda bread is the house specialty (about $25 for two with wine - beer is not served).
