W&L FALLS IN MEN'S LACROSSE

In Lexington, Alfred scored the last four goals of the game to win the Washington and Lee Lacrosse Tournament with a 15-11 victory over the Generals in a battle of top 10 NCAA Division III teams.

Lance Locey scored his fourth goal, with 6 minutes, 6 seconds left, to put seventh-ranked Alfred (2-0) in front.

Colin Higgins led ninth-ranked W&L (2-2) with three goals and two assists.

In Syracuse, N.Y., Dominick Millner of William Fleming finished second in the boys' long jump and Emily Rakes of Cave Spring tied for fourth in the girls' high jump at the National Scholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Carrier Dome.

Millner jumped 24 feet, 3 inches, only 2 inches short of the winning jump of 24-5 by Aaron Fox of Flagstaff, Ariz. Both were named Foot Locker All-Americans.

Rakes, who has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball and run track at North Carolina-Wilmington, cleared 5-8, 2 inches short of the winning jump.

Flip Groggins of Fincastle led every lap from the pole position to win a GT-1 Sports Car Club of America race in Savannah, Ga.

Groggins won by 58 seconds over Bill Reed of Atlanta. His Oldsmobile Cutlass set a race lap record of 1 minute, 11.1 seconds on the third lap. He leads the Southeast Division in GT-1 points.
