BLAZE DESTROYS PUMPING STATION; ARSON SUSPECTED

A fire of suspicious origin destroyed a water pumping station off Little River Dam Road on Tuesday night.

Snowville Fire Department Chief Lee Simpkins said fire officials believe the blaze, which started around 6:30 p.m., was set. No one was injured.

The fire did $25,000 to $40,000 damage to the structure, owned by Holston River Quarries Inc., according to Simpkins.

The quarry has not been in operation since the mid-1980s, he said.
