LACROSSE UMBC STRIKES EARLY, BEATS RADFORD

Maryland Baltimore County rolled to a 13-1 lead after two quarters and blizted host Radford 24-5 in a men's lacrosse game Tuesday.

Jason Smith led the Retrievers with five goals. Rick Ricker and Repp Lambert led Radford (1-5) with three goals apiece.

The Highlanders will play their final home game Thursday against Marist.

In Greensboro, N.C., Karin Peterson scored five goals to lead Guilford College to a 17-7 victory over Hollins in a women's lacrosse game.

The Quakers (1-0) rolled to a 10-0 lead after one half. Meriweather Gill and Kelley Whitney led Hollins (0-3) with three goals apiece.

Roanoke opened its women's schedule with an 18-7 victory over visiting Davidson (0-2).

Freshman Gayle Avery had six goals and junior Liz Florence added five for the Maroons. Roanoke goalkeeper Kathleen Oster had 12 saves.

Roanoke plays at two-time defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference champion Washington and Lee on Thursday at 4 p.m.
