EX-PITCHER SHOW FOUND DEAD AT 37

Eric Show, who helped pitch the San Diego Padres to the National League pennant in 1984, was found dead Wednesday. He was 37.

Show was discovered in his bed at a substance-abuse facility in the rural community of Dulzura, Calif., the county coroner's office said. The cause of death was not immediately known, pending an autopsy.

Show, a right-hander, had a 100-87 record with the Padres from 1981 to 1990. He may be best remembered for throwing the pitch that Pete Rose hit to break Ty Cobb's all-time hit record. He also was involved in an infamous beanball incident with Andre Dawson of the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Show was well-known in San Diego for his affiliation with the right-wing John Birch Society.
