RELIGION BRIEFS

FOLK GUITARIST CHARLIE KING, who also is a Christian humorist, will perform March 25 at Second Presbyterian Church to benefit Roanoke Area Ministries. A contribution of $5 is suggested. The program will begin at 8 p.m. at the church at 214 Mountain Ave. S.W.

The King concert offering will provide funds for prescription medicines that many poor Roanoke Valley residents are unable to afford. Helping pay for these is one of the services RAM offers in its emergency aid program, said Susan Adams, a staff member of the ecumenical agency.

\ HOLY THURSDAY LITURGY on March 31 at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church will include a procession into the church from the parking lot at 2505 Electric Road S.W. The procession will begin at 7 p.m. In the church, Mass will include a foot-washing ritual followed by another procession in which offerings, representing the worshipers, will be carried to the chapel.

\ GRACE CHURCH, an evangelical Christian congregation at 2731 Edgewood St. S.W., has chosen the Rev. Craig T. Combs as its next pastor. Combs has served as pastor of a Baptist church in Bentley Creek, Pa., for five years. He is a graduate of Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and served in vocational ministry for 15 years.

He and his wife, Betsy, have two children. At Grace Church he succeeds the Rev. Everett Kier who left the pastorate a year ago. Since then, the Rev. James Schuppe has served as interim.

An installation service for Combs is set for April 3 at 10:45 a.m.

\ CHRIST IN THE PASSOVER will be the theme of a program Sunday at 7 p.m. at Cave Spring Baptist Church, 4873 Brambleton Ave. S.W.

Dave Garrett, a representative of the Jews for Jesus ministry, will be guest leader and will display some of the more familiar articles used by Jews at the Passover celebration each spring.

Jews for Jesus, an international organization, works from nine North American cities. Its goal is to convince Jews that Jesus is the promised Messiah.
