Tim Lisk's first was no exception. The 38-year-old Roanoke police detective achieved the milestone Wednesday night in the Bowling Green League at Hilltop Lanes in Roanoke.
The first person to congratulate Lisk was one of his teammates, Ed Quinn. "He's shot a number of 300s, so he was just trying to keep me calm" during the game, Lisk said. "He just kept telling me to take my time."
What made it special for Lisk was that the second person to congratulate him was his wife, who had been bowling on the lanes next to him.
Lisk has been bowling "on and off" for 30 years and carries a 206 average in league play. He said he knew he had a pretty good shot at the 300 game after his ninth strike.
"I was on my knees just praying," Lisk said of the final ball. "You never know when you can leave that solid corner pin.
"I've come close so many times, so I knew one of these days everything might work out. You just don't know when." - Staff report
