YMCA HAS A NUMBER OF HIKES PLANNED FOR SPRING|

To join a YMCA hike, meet at 1:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on Sunday afternoons at the Y parking lot on 403 Washington St. in Blacksburg. Bring water, a jacket and a car - or gas money for those who will drive. Call 231-6860 for more information.

Here's a list of spring hikes:

Sunday: White Rock Cliffs, on the Appalachian Trail from beyond Mountain Lake past Wind Rock. Hike Leader: Elizabeth Moneyhun.

March 26: This hike will be held on a Saturday at 9 a.m. An 11-mile hike at Rock Castle Gorge off the Blue Ridge Parkway, following a steep trail down the gorge and back up. Hike Leader: Barry Anderson.

April 3: Falls Ridge and Hollow, an easy stroll on Nature Conservancy land in Ellett Valley. Hike Leader: Dottie Abashian.

April 10: Dragons Tooth, to and along the Appalachian Trail on Cove Mountain. Steep. Hike Leader: Ed Lener.

April 17: McAfee Knob, a 3.5-mile steep hike along the Appalachian Trail to cliffs overlooking Catawba and the Roanoke Valley. Hike Leader: Bryce Bolton.

April 23: Another Saturday hike beginning at 9 a.m. to Tinker Cliffs. This is a steep seven- to 10-mile hike up Tinker Mountain to cliffs overlooking Catawba Valley. Hike Leader: Barry Anderson.

May 1: Audie Murphy Memorial, hike on the Appalachian trail along the ridge of Brush Mountain and the site of the plane crash that killed Audie Murphy.
