Donald C. Smith, who lives in Floyd County, was suspended Tuesday from his job in Pulaski County pending the outcome of the charges.
The offenses are alleged to have happened in Floyd County in 1991, and to have involved a boy who was then 13 years old.
Smith had also been a teacher in Floyd County, but that was before 1991.
Floyd County Commonwealth's Attorney Gino Williams said Thursday that, while he still did not have a complete report on Smith's background, there was no apparent connection between the charges and any of Smith`s teaching duties.
Smith is free on bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Floyd County General District Court in mid-April.
The charges followed a joint investigation between Floyd County authorities and state police.
Smith lives in the Alum Ridge area of Floyd County.
