CROWDING AT GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL UNDERLINED AT AWARDS CEREMONY

Students and parents attending the awards ceremony for the Southwest Virginia Governor's School Science Consortium found themselves at a standing-room-only gathering.

``You all are experiencing right now what we are experiencing at the Governor's School,'' Pat Duncan, the school's director, told them.

The school is located on the Pulaski County High School campus, where it draws more than 80 students from Pulaski, Giles, Floyd, Carroll, Wythe and Smyth counties and the city of Galax. Classrooms have already swallowed up its office space and board meeting room, and enrollment may rise to 100 next year.

``It may be that, in a year or two, we will have our nice brand new Governor's School building,'' Duncan said. If so, she added, it will include an auditorium for such gatherings.
