4 STUDENTS SING WITH THE SEA CHANTERS

Four Pulaski County students will sing with the U.S. Navy Band's SEA CHANTER CHORUS at today's performance at Pulaski Middle School. Those students are Steve Donathan, Sarah Williams, Joey Trail and Lesley Edmunds. The Sea Chanter appearance is sponsored by New River Community College and admission is free. However, tickets are required for the 7 p.m. concert and may be picked up at the office of continuing education at the college.

A meeting for parents and teachers who have children with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in Gilbert Linkous Elementary School. For further information, call 951-2206.

Prices Fork Elementary School will conduct its IOWA TEST OF BASIC SKILLS this week for second- through fifth-grade pupils, as well as a few selected first-graders. Parents who may have questions about the test are encouraged to call principal Larry Arrington at 951-5736.

The American Association of University Women is honoring WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH by supplying materials and books on women and science to all public schools in Montgomery County that wish to have the exhibit. Some of the information is designed to promote science and math education for girls, including one book called "Nobel Prize Women in Science." The Radford Community Hospital Auxiliary and the Radford Community Health Foundation are sponsoring a $2,000 SCHOLARSHIP to an area high school student interested in following a career in health services.

Students who wish to apply for the scholarship must do so by May 2. Call the Radford Community Hospital volunteer manager at 731-2558 for an application.

The fourth-graders at Belview Elementary School are producing their own NEWS PROGRAM for the school. The pupils write, produce and film the daily program which keeps their classmates up to date on the latest in school news. This is the second year the fourth-graders have produced the Belview Elementary School News.

At the Blacksburg New School, the pupils are learning about NEWSPAPERS AND REPORTING with members of the Society of Professional Journalists at Virginia Tech. These second- and third-graders are learning basic journalism principals, including interviewing and writing techniques. The children are producing their own newspaper for the school.

The Blacksburg New School will hold its annual OPEN HOUSE today and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Current parents of New School students will be on hand to show guests the teaching facilities, introduce teachers and describe the various programs at the school.

This week's featured high school is SHAWSVILLE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL. Here's what's happening there:

Senior Kelley Ryan received the 1994 National Marketing Education Honor Award for her work with the Distributive Education Club of America. She is the daughter of Bill and Regina Ryan.

The seventh-grade English students are using their newspaper-reading skills to become more environmentally aware in their community. They collected and labeled 10 different articles from newspapers concerning the environment.

The seventh-grade advisory groups are collecting money and nonperishable food for Easter Food Baskets to go to area needy families. Collection boxes have been placed around the school. To make a donation, call 268-2262.

Recipients of the Statewide Academic Excellence Award from the Virginia High School League are: Andy Smith and Jeremy Nichols, basketball; Ben Basham and Paul Sink, wrestling; Dawn Loving, Karen Ratcliff and Paige Bower, cheerleading; Amy Roberts, Kelley Ryan, Robin Burdette, Missy Flight, Kim Wells, Lisa Wood, Jessie Flight and Wendy Crisco, volleyball.
