BLACKSBURG CHAMBER PRESENTS HONORS TO 3

The Greater Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce recognized two businessmen and a teacher at its annual membership banquet Monday night.

Dave Reemsnyder, president of Snyder Hunt Corp., was named Business Person of the Year for 1993. Reemsnyder, a former Rotary Club president, is a member of the Commission on Economic Development for the Blue Ridge Region. He is also active in citizens for Regional Progress in the New River Valley.

Snyder Hunt employs more than 600 people across the state.

The chamber named Mike Matzuk, owner of East Coasters Cycling and Fitness, as its Distinguished Citizen of the Year.

Matzuk, as chairman of the local organizing committee for the Tour DuPont, played a prominent role in bringing the international bike race to the town. A stage "finish" will be held in Blacksburg this May.

Julie Grady, a teacher at Blacksburg High School, was presented with the Award of Excellence in Education. She was named the Outstanding High School Chemistry Teacher in 1990 by the American Chemical Society's Blue Ridge section

Paul Torgersen, president of Virginia Tech, spoke on "Criticisms of Higher Education" at the event.
