AUXILIARY BISHOP TO LEAVE VIRGINIA

The Most Rev. David E. Foley, auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond for eight Foley years, has been named bishop of the Diocese of Birmingham, Ala.

Foley will be installed May 13 in Birmingham.

Foley, 64, has been a priest for 38 years. He served the Diocese of Washington for 30 years before coming to Richmond to work with Bishop Walter Sullivan.

In a prepared statement Tuesday, Foley said he will be conducting confirmations throughout the Diocese of Richmond, which includes Western Virginia, during April before taking time off before his installation.
