APPLAUSE

Visitors to the Red Cross shelter at Blacksburg Middle School during the first big ice storm were assisted by many local volunteers, student groups and organizations who willingly came in to offer their time and energy.

Members of the Southwest Virginia Mountain Rescue Group and Civil Air Patrol from Montgomery and Roanoke counties were extremely valuable in getting supplies, providing communications and performing damage assessment.

Alpha Delta Pi sorority members volunteered child care services, while Virginia Tech's Culinary Services provided food. Staff members from Blacksburg Middle School helped any way they could.

The Montgomery County Red Cross appreciates the selfless assistance and support at the shelter.
