NORFOLK STATE MEN OUT IN DIVISION II

Jemi Johnson scored 26 points to lead Washburn (Kan.) past Norfolk State 69-58 on Wednesday in a quarterfinal of the NCAA Division II men's basketball tournament.

Led by Johnson's two quick 3-pointers and a third by Tony Arrington, Washburn went on a 16-0 run midway through the second half to take a 54-45 lead with eight minutes to play. During the surge, the Ichabods held Norfolk State without a field goal for seven minutes.

The Spartans, with Derrick Bryant adding 14 points and Sean Bell 12, cut the margin to 59-55 with three minutes left, but was forced to foul. Washburn, which missed only twice from the free-throw line in the second half, was able to keep Norfolk State at bay.
